VILLAGESChurch of Saint Theodora VASTAS Vastas is situated at about 850 metres elevation on a mountainside. Its main claim to fame is its proximity to the Chapel of Saint Theodora. This was built by villagers on the site where its most famous citizen met her demise with the words, "Let my body become a church, my blood a river and my hair the forest". Although the village has not exploited its proximity to the "miracle church" with the same gusto as the neighbouring village of Isaris, there are signs of a rural society dipping its toes into tourism - most noticeably, the guest house next to the church offering balcony rooms with fantastic views.
