VILLAGESMandra
CHURCH OF SAINT GEORGE
The Church is Saint George in Mandra is disproportionately large given the size of the village. It is a typical stone construction but, given that churches are supposed to glorify God, one cannot help thinking its architect was an atheist. The stone work lacks charm, the arched windows on either side of the main entrance are not at the same height and it is surrounded by lots of concrete.
Like most churches it is locked but, unusually, its main gate is also bolted although one of the side gates is open to allow access to the graveyard beyond. This incorporates a ruined arch next to a chapel and some elaborate graves.
