TOWNSNea Figalia
CHURCH OF DORMITION OF THE VIRGIN
Wonders have been worked on the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin (the "falling asleep" or death of Mary) to the east of Nea Figalia. One of the most important Byzantine churches in the region, it is the Katholikon of a monastery.
The church's decorative stonework is a delight and the revealed remains of the former monastery are fascinating, as are the graves surrounding the church and in the graveyard beyond. The date on a nearby fountain is also intriguing as it suggests it is contemporary with the Trani Vrysi in Andritsaina which claims to be the oldest fountain on the Peleponnese.
