VILLAGES ELEKTRA To the north of Konstantini is the small village of Elektra. This has a pretty central square dominated by two gigantic trees and a bridge over a river. Also prominently positioned in the square is a smart house that is home to a number of noisy dogs. Their howls are disturbing but barking is not unusual in mountain villages - until recently most households kept a dog for protection. Dogs were also an important part of ancient Greek society. They were hunters, protectors and companions and the spiked collar, so well known today, was invented by Greeks to protect the necks of their canine friends from wolves.
