VILLAGESPerivolia CHURCH OF SAINT GEORGE Like many Greek churches, the church in Perivolia is named after Saint George, the patron saint of England immortalised in the legend of George and the Dragon. But George was not English and maybe he did not slay a dragon? Born in the third century to Turkish Christian parents, he became a Roman soldier but was imprisoned for his protests against the persecution of Christians. One of the best ways to view the village is from the bell tower which, unlike the church, is unlocked. Inside the church you will see white columns stretching up to a ceiling painted blue with gold stars symbolising the heavens.
