VILLAGESBarbalekou Tower
Perched on the southern summit of the Neda gorge at an altitude of 500 metres, the village of Platania is a dead-end but heaven if you like traditional tavernas with amazing views. The sight of the Neda river snaking its way towards the Ionian sea is just breathtaking!
Platania is most often associated with the 'Neda' because a nearby dirt track leads to the famous waterfalls. At the top of this track is the Barbalekou Tower which can be seen across the gorge from Ancient Phigaleia. This is worth visiting - not just for the views but for the amphitheatre absent from its name.
