TOWNSKyparissia castle
Kyparissia is a seaside town on the western coast of the Peloponnese. In the Middle ages it was called Arkadia, a name it bore until its destruction in 1825 during the Greek War of Independence.
Today, the re-built town is buzzing with hotels, bars, restaurants, internet cafés and souvenir shops, although you can still find more traditional eateries where locals escape the midday sun. The Ai-Lagoudis, a long sandy beach, is about five minutes walk from the plateia ('town square') and, on the slopes of the hill flanking the new town, is the Old Town with its Medieval castle.
