ANCIENT PHIGALEIA ARCHAEOLOGY Evidence of the ancient city of Phigaleia litters the ground of the modern day village and there are a number of key archaeological sites worthy of a visit. To the east, outside of the defensive walls, is the well preserved ancient fountain house and, to the west, the Temple of Athena. Another temple said to be inside the walls is probably the site of the Byzantine church in the graveyard. You will also find tombs on the footpath to the Neda waterfalls. Check out our walks many of which feature path or roadside ancient remains or have an archaeological site as a destination.
