HISTORY BATHS AND FOUNTAINS Our existence is dependent on water, or the lack of it. Infact, one could say that our whole civilization is built on how to get drinkable water and how to manage the waste we produce. The people of ancient Greece were very aware of this and made strong headway in the development of public water systems. The baths and fountains they built were fed by springs that, like everything in nature, were held to have mystical and medicinal powers. Their elaborate architectural treatment reflected this belief and, to some extent, still does today. No village would be complete without a spring flowing from a stone fountain!
